Rally for
Property Tax
Reform NOW!
Saturday, May 6 at
12:00 noon
Join
taxpayers across New York State to demand an end to the property tax
nightmare! We want elected officials in Albany to provide
adequate state funding for public education, eliminate dependence on
local property taxes, maintain funding to other local government
programs, and eliminate unfunded mandates.
We have the support of the Association of Towns, thanks to the
generosity of Executive Director G. Jeffrey Haber. The
Association sent a letter in support of the tax reform movement to its
932 member towns last spring, raised the issue in a panel discussion,
enacted a resolution calling for reform at its annual meeting in
February 2006, and agreed to participate in the Property Tax Reform NOW
press conference on May 8.
You can help us. How? Initially, by organizing a Property Tax Reform
NOW rally in your town on Saturday, May 6, at 12:00 noon.
(A prototype rally notice that you can adapt is attached.)
- Use the Property Tax Reform NOW
theme for a consistent message. (Sample attached.)
- Take digital photographs of your
rally, which we’ll reproduce for display at the Albany press conference
on May 8. (A transmittal sheet is attached.)
- Get signatures on the attached
Appeal to Elected Officials in Albany. Send completed forms to
Supervisor’s Office, Town of Cornwall, 183 Main Street, Cornwall NY
12518. Appeals will be forwarded collectively to Albany.
Attend the Property Tax Reform NOW press conference on Monday, May 8,
at 11:00 a.m. in Room 130 Legislative Office Building at the Capitol in
Albany. (Press release attached.)
In addition, contribute to the property tax reform effort on a
continuing basis. You can:
- Organize a local committee to
project the message of the 2006 rally and press conference. If
there already is a committee, send contact information so that we can
coordinate our efforts.
- Bombard legislators with demands
for a solution to the property tax crisis. Homeowners should be
able to support quality education and keep their homes.
